How I collect and use personal information

Last updated: 5 October 2026

This policy explains how I collect and use personal information when you visit potentiachange.com or get in touch with me. I keep it short because I collect very little.

Who I am

This website is run by Potentia Change Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 15056711). I’m James Hartley, its director, and “I” and “me” in this policy mean Potentia Change Ltd. The company is the “controller” of the personal information described here.

Registered office: Clear Vision Accountancy Ltd, 1 Abacus House, Newlands Road, Corsham, Wiltshire SN13 0BH.

You can contact me about anything in this policy at james@potentiachange.com or on +44 (0) 7411 937308.

What I collect and why

When you contact me. If you use the contact form, email or call me, I receive the details you choose to share. The form asks for your name, email address, an optional phone number and your message. I use these to reply to you and, if we decide to work together, to arrange that work.

The legal basis is my legitimate interest in responding to enquiries. Where your enquiry leads to an engagement, the basis is taking steps to enter into a contract with you.

Form submissions are sent to my email inbox. I don’t add you to any mailing list, and I never sell or share your details for marketing.

When you browse the site. I don’t use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. I can’t see who visits the site.

Like any website, the server that hosts it automatically records technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. My hosting provider and my security plugin use this to keep the site running and protect it from attacks. It isn’t used to identify you.

Services that process data for me

  • Hostinger hosts the website and delivers it through its content delivery network.
  • Wordfence is a security plugin that screens visits for malicious traffic. It may record IP addresses for that purpose.
  • Google reCAPTCHA (Contact page only) checks that form submissions come from a person, not a spam bot. Google processes information such as your IP address and how you interact with the page, under the Google Privacy Policy and Terms.
  • Hostinger also hosts my email, so it stores the messages you send me.

Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, they rely on recognised safeguards such as the UK adequacy regulations or standard contractual clauses.

Links to other sites

The site links to LinkedIn, Spotify, podcast hosts and ignitioncraft.co.uk. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which apply once you follow a link.

Cookies

This site doesn’t set cookies for analytics or advertising. Google reCAPTCHA on the Contact page may set cookies needed for its spam protection. If you log in to the site’s admin area (site administrators only), WordPress sets cookies to keep you signed in.

How long I keep your information

I keep enquiries and our correspondence for up to two years after our last contact, unless we go on to work together. In that case I keep records for as long as needed for the work and for legal and accounting purposes, usually six years. Server and security logs are kept for a short period by my hosting and security providers.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the information I hold about you
  • ask me to correct it
  • ask me to delete it
  • object to or restrict how I use it

To make a request, email james@potentiachange.com. I’ll respond within one month.

If you’re unhappy with how I’ve handled your information, please tell me first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO): ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this policy

I’ll update this page if the way I use personal information changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
